New Bayonne police officer following in 9/11 hero dad, PAPD PO John “Jay” Lennon’s, footsteps

Christopher Lennon, 27, son of John “Jay” Lennon, a Port Authority Police Officer killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, has joined the Bayonne Police Department. He was only 10 when he lost his father, reports Corey W. McDonald in The Jersey Journal.

Officers with the Bayonne PD arranged for his shield number to match that of his father — 1170. During the swearing-in ceremony, John’s widow, Patricia, pinned the shield onto her son’s uniform.

Christopher Lennon told reporters, “Even prior to 9/11, I wanted to be a police officer. For Halloween I would dress up as a police officer.”
