Federal investigators are looking into how a steel plate fell on a hardhat at the World Trade Center site over the weekend.

A 48-year-old carpenter working for Navillus Contracting was taken by ambulance Saturday from the Trade Center’s vehicle security center.

Fire officials said he was listed as stable with multiple fractures, including a broken leg. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration opened an investigation into how it happened.
