Flags across Arlington
As has become their custom, on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, Arlington County will hang U.S.flags from overpasses and buildings in honour of the lives taken by terrorists on September 11, 2001.
9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. The Field of Flags -- one flag per victim -- will appear again this year in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. The Parks Department initially refused a permit due to imminent construction, but changed their minds after a public furor.
