The county’s September 11 Memorial pays tribute to all those who died in the terrorist attacks in New York\, Pennsylvania and Washington\, D.C.\, on September 11\, 2001\, with a special emphasis on the 64 victims from Morris County whose names are etched in plaques that are affixed to the memorial. \nNineteen residents of Madison\, the Chathams and Florham Park lost their lives in the 2001 attacks: Navy Commander Robert Dolan and Simon Maddison of Florham Park; Donald Leroy Adams\, Dennis Buckley\, Gary Haag\, Anthony P. Infante\, Jr.\, Philip W. Mastrandrea\, Jr.\, Peter C. Moutos and Thomas S. Strada of Chatham; Paul Stuart Gilbey\, Robert Blair Larkey\, Christian Hartwell Maltby and Kenneth J. Swenson of Chatham Township; James Leslie Crawford\, Jr.\, Timothy Robert Hughes\, Patrick J. McGuire\, Donald A. Peterson\, Jean H. Peterson and Peter M. West of Madison. \nMost of these victims were in the World Trade Center. Capt. Dolan died at the Pentagon on September 11\, 2001. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson were aboard the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93. \nThe names of all of the 2\,793 people who died that day are engraved in ruby-colored paving stones that surround the memorial. \nSince seating at the memorial is limited\, the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs. \nParking will be available at the Morris County Department of Human Services building at 340 West Hanover Ave.\, in Morris Township.
