Annual 5-K honors NYPD Deputy Chief Steven Bonano, who died from 9/11-related disease

A 5-K honoring NYPD Deputy Chief Steven Bonano was held this weekend. Chief Bonano died in 2015 from a rare blood cancer caused by his work at the World Trade Center after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He was 53.

Chief Bonano was a lifelong member of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and loved working with children. The race in his name raises funds for the cause he loved and worked for, reports News 12 The Bronx.

Steven’s brother Tony presented two swimming scholarships to  club members to remember his brother’s love of the sport.
