What’s new in prostate cancer? Highlights from the Institute for Prostate Cancer Research 2017 community symposium

The Institute for Prostate Cancer Research helps patients keep up with recent developments in treatment options at their annual community symposium.

Susan Keown of the Fred Hutch News Service reports on new developments to watch in prostate cancer: exercise and prostate cancer survivorship; personalized care through genomics; new technology for prostate-cancer imaging; and three new immunotherapies for prostate cancer, a therapeutic vaccine approach that turns on T cells to fight cancer cells, drugs called checkpoint inhibitors, and an experimental strategy in which patients’ immune cells are genetically reprogrammed to kill cancers.
