USS New York honors 9/11 heroes while preparing for disaster relief efforts

Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Shamira Purifoy, Navy Public Affairs Support Element East reports from somewhere in the Atlantic about the crew of the USS New York marking the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 aboard the ship that bears 7 tons of World Trade Center steel in her bow.

The USS New York, an amphibious transport dock ship, together with amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) and the guided-missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG 56), are headed to the Florida Keys to assist with disaster relief after Hurricane Irma.
