Retired FDNY firefighter and ‘Chopped’ chef Keith Young dies of 911-related illness 

Keith Young, 53, a retired FDNY firefighter who won a number of television prizes for his cooking, has died of World Trade Center-related cancer, reports John Annese of the New York Daily News.

Young spent 18 years on the job, mostly at Ladder 156 and TL-158 and worked during the recovery efforts after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

He wrote a cookbook titled Cooking with the Firehouse Chef in 2003 and defeated TV chef Bobby Flay in a televised chicken cacciatore event in 2007.

Young’s wife died of breast cancer in 2012. They have three children.
