NYPD to honor fallen officers in Friday ceremony at headquarters

A ceremony will be held this Friday to add new names to the memorial wall at 1 Police Plaza, writes Anthony M. DeStefano of NY Newsday.

Among this year’s honorees are 22 officers who died of World Trade Center-related illnesses. The names of Detective Steven McDonald and Detective Miosotis Familia will also be added.

Among the 836 names already on the wall are 153 names of officers who have died from illnesses contracted from their recovery work after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. A new plaque had to be installed to hold all the September 11th-related names.
