NYPD, FDNY heroes team up for hurricane rescue

One of NYC’s Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue teams, made up of FDNY firefighters and NYPD officers, saved a North Carolina family from the floodwaters of Hurricane Matthew this week, report Tom Wilson and Daniel Prendergast in the NY Post.

The unit consists of four boat crews and 45 members of the NYPD and FDNY. They have deployed to many disasters, including Hurricane Sandy and the flood in New Orleans and the earthquake in Haiti.
