Lawrence Cedarhurst Fire Department remembers FDNY Firefighter Kevin M. O’Rourke

The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department on Long Island dedicated a monument and street sign in honor of Firefighter Kevin M. O’Rourke on May 6, 2018. FF O’Rourke was killed in the line of duty during the terrorist attacks of 9/11 with his company, Rescue 2 of the FDNY, reports the Long Island Herald.

Being rescued by a firefighter as a child inspired O’Rourke to volunteer with the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to captain before leaving in 1984 to join the FDNY.

O’Rourke was an elite firefighter and member of an especially skilled Rescue company. He was loved for repairing the bikes of local children and teaching them fire safety.
