Hero FDNY firefighter Jimmy Lanza, who died of 9/11-related cancer, memorialized with plaque at Harlem firehouse

Firefighter Jimmy Lanza was honored with a plaque at his firehouse, Ladder 43 in Harlem. Lanza died last year of World Trade Center-related brain cancer, report Catherina Gioino and Larry McShane of the New York Daily News.

Jimmy was well-known in the FDNY for his devotion to charity work.

“Jimmy was just saintly,” said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro. “I think he worked more hours doing things for others than he worked as a firefighter.

“He just couldn’t do enough for other people.”
