Heartburn medications linked to dementia in German study

Proton pump inhibitors, better known as Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium, popular drugs prescribed for GERD and heartburn, may raise dementia risk, a new study published last week in JAMA Neurology finds, writes Delthia Ricks in the February 16, 2016 issue of Newsday.

This news is on top of a January 2016 study that found that these drugs may increase kidney disease and that they may be often prescribed unnecessarily.
