Berrien County – A new 9/11 memorial is being built in Southwest Michigan.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place at the 9/11 Resiliency Plaza in Benton Harbor Wednesday morning. The memorial will include a 500-pound section of steel beam from the World Trade Center towers.

The park is next to the Benton Harbor City Library and across from the police and fire departments.

A non-profit will oversee the facility once it’s built.
