Gies family on Mike Piazza’s induction into the Hall of Fame

Carol Gies remembers the night Piazza hit the first NY home run after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, reports Kevin Armstrong in the NY Daily News.

‘“I was really numb,” she says. “I kind of just existed, but we made a decision, a family decision, that we would go. Shea Stadium was our place. We were such a Met family that if there was somewhere to go, Ronnie would have wanted us there.”’
