Former FDNY lieutenant from North Bellmore honored posthumously

The corner of Waltoffer and Washington Avenues in North Bellmore is now known as Lt. Steven Sorger Avenue, reports Jesse Coburn in Newsday.

A dedication ceremony was held last week to honor a local FDNY officer who died of World Trade Center-related illness on March 11 of this year. Lt. Sorger was 62 and spent months on the pile, searching for remains after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
