9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Retired FDNY Firefighter Thomas K. Kontizas, formerly of Engine 312, died on June 9, 2018 of World Trade Center-related acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He served 22 years in the FDNY and retired just before the terrorist attacks of 9/11. He responded nevertheless and served at the site during the recovery operation.
