9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. In celebration of July 4th, A Tribute to Old Glory, an exhibit of paintings by Scott Lobaido, will open on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 6:00pm with a reception at the Broome Street Gallery. During the reception, LoBaido will create an American flag painting in three minutes. A number of LoBaido’s works celebrating the American flag will be shown and will be available for purchase. The exhibit can also be seen from Wednesday, July 2, 2014 through Friday, July 4, 2014 between 10:00am and 5:00pm. From Wednesday, March 19, 2014 to Saturday, April 5, 2014, five FDNY firefighters from Engine 9/Ladder 6 will ride their bicycles 1,400 miles in 18 days from the former World Trade Center to the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, VA to the National Navy SEAL Museum in Florida. On Thursday, March 6, 2014, the FDNY Bravest Boxing Team will take on the Garda [Police] Boxing Team from Dublin, Ireland to benefit Building Homes for Heroes. There will be 12 bouts of amateur boxing at NYC’s Webster Hall, starting at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6:00pm. The Bravest Boxing team donates the proceeds from their events to Building Homes for Heroes, which builds handicap-accessible homes for severely injured veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Construction on Sgt. (ret.) Ben Tomlinson’s “smart home” will begin at 1:00pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 with a groundbreaking ceremony. Sgt. Tomlinson of the United States Marine Corps was injured in Afghanistan both in 2009 and 2010. The latter injury left him paralyzed from the chest down. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Football Team will host a flag football game on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange, NJ. Players will include rescue and recovery workers from the World Trade Center recovery operation, NFL players and amputees from the Wounded Warrior team. The 9th annual James D. McNaughton Benefit will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 1:00pm–8:00pm at Mulcahy’s Pub in Wantagh.
