Run an exclusive “vertical marathon” and fight a killer disease.
For 36 years, the Empire State Building Run-up has been notoriously difficult to enter. But in 2013, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation will field a team of 100 to run. Applications are being accepted now.
Runners’ ability to raise funds for MMRF and their connection to myeloma will be taken into consideration in the team selection process. A team raising awareness for the devastation multiple myeloma has caused to the September 11th community would be invaluable.
The minimum amount to raise is $2,500.
Runners may apply individually or in teams of three.

On Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 11:00am, the Blue Sky Girls and the FDNY will make their 2nd annual stair climb for Rett Syndrome.
A number of FDNY firefighters will help girls with Rett Syndrome climb the stairs of the beautiful Tweed Courthouse in lower Manhattan.
Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder on the Autism spectrum, affecting 1 in 10,000 girls. Only girls are affected by Rett. Many of those afflicted are wheelchair bound and unable to speak.
Blue Sky Girls events are held around the world at multiple sites to increase awareness of the disease. The choice of a stair climb is symbolic, as climbing raises one up and is a challenge. October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month. Many of the affected girls might not be able to climb stairs but they can learn from trying and can learn that help is at hand. For New York City’s event, members of the FDNY have been asked to help the girls who need assistance in reaching the top of the stairs.
To learn more, please click here. To see other Blue Sky events, please click here. If you are an FDNY member who would like to volunteer, please contact FF Laurie Galioto (L-37) at 718-931-7382, or FF Kenny Lynch (E-79) at 845-467-3335.
