Walk with Joe

The twelfth annual Walk with Joe will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Manalapa, NJ. Please save the date.

The walk honors former Manalapan resident Patrick “Joe” Driscoll, who was aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.

9/11 Heroes’ Run/Walk Team Waldie

Please join Team Waldie for the 9/11 Heroes Run /Walk, which will be held at the North Shore Riverfront Trail (the river walk between the Steelers’ and Pirates’ stadiums) on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 9:30am as they walk and/or run for all those murdered by terrorists on September 11, 2001.

Team Waldie has been formed by alumni from BPHS to honor their fallen classmate and alumnus Ken Waldie, who was a passenger on Flight 11, the first plane attacked.

The first 100 people to register online will receive a Team Waldie T-shirt. This will be the official Team Waldie shirt.

Remember Me Run

The annual Remember Me Run at St. Michael’s Cemetery will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 7, 2013.

A project of the Christopher A. Santora Scholarship Fund, the Remember Me Run helps the children of rescue and recovery workers who have died of illnesses contracted from searching for survivors and human remains in the wreckage of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks of 2001. More than 1,000 recovery workers have died of these illnesses and many more are sick.  

Registration begins at 10:00am. The fee to run is $25.00 for adults; children 10 and under run for free. Please make any checks payable to the Christopher Santora Educational Scholarship Fund with Remember Me Run in the memo section. Refreshments will be provided after the run.

The run ends at the beautiful September 11th Memorial at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

12th Annual Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race, Walk and Family Day

Join the Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Foundation this year for the 12th annual Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race, Walk and Family Day which will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Woodale School in Abington, MA.

Each September the Foundation sponsors the Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race, Walk and Family Day, raising about $25,000-30,000 annually. The 5-K road race/walk has become a highly anticipated event in the town and is well known beyond the streets of Abington. Participants to the event have come from cities throughout the state, as well as New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, California, Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

Jeff Coombs was a hard worker in the fields of finance and computers, a kind man with a goofy laugh and a devoted family man when he was killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 while a passenger aboard American Flight 11. His 43rd birthday would have been September 18, 2001.

Save the date for the Captain Gerald F. DeConto, USN, Scholarship Fund 5-K Run & Walk

The 12th annual Captain Gerald F. DeConto, USN, Scholarship Fund 5-K Run and Walk.

Captain Gerald F. DeConto, USN was killed at the age of 44 in the September 11th terrorist attack on the Pentagon. A scholarship fund has been set up in his memory to honor him and the legacy he left behind which is one of service to his country, leadership, friendship and love of life and family. A scholarship is awarded each year from the fund to a deserving Sandwich High School senior.

The 5-K starts with a brief memorial tribute at 9:00am on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Russell’s Corner (corner of Rte. 6A and Jarvis Street) in Sandwich, MA. The course is a scenic 3.1 mile route through the center of Sandwich to the Sandwich Marina and beach area. Runners and walkers are both welcome. Runners will leave the starting line first with official timing by Spitler Race Systems of Pawtucket RI.
