9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation, which honors the 8-year-old boy murdered in the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, is looking for runners to run the New York City Marathon with their Team MR8. Martin Richard was the youngest victim of the 2013 attack. The 102-member team named for him raised more than a million dollars for the Foundation at this year’s Boston Marathon. There will be a Purple Ribbon 5-K Run/Walk and ½ Mile Fun Run on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 8:00am to raise money to fight pancreatic cancer. Details and registration forms can be found here. All funds raised will benefit the Lustgarten Foundation. Many recovery workers from the World Trade Center recovery operation now suffer from pancreatic and other cancers. The 14th annual Shawn M. Nassaney Race/Walk will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014. This year’s race will start at 9:00am with a children’s run (1 loop) following the adult run. After the race, a breakfast of eggs, toast, sausage, bacon, coffee and juice will be provided. Teams of five or more are encouraged to participate. The top five runners will determine the team score. The Fallbrook Firefighters’ Association will hold a 3-mile hike up Monserate Mountain in honor of the 343 FDNY firefighters who were murdered in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Hold the Door for Others will host its second annual Hold the Door 5-K run/walk fundraiser on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Rockland Lake State Park.
