Assistant Chief Ron Spadafora needs blood and platelets. A survivor of the attacks, Chief Spadafora was assigned as the World Trade Center Chief of Safety for the entire recovery operation in October 2001. He is now fighting World Trade Center cancer. He is currently a patient at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and requires regular blood and platelet transfusions. A bone marrow drive for FF Jimmy Martinez will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 8:00am to 2:00pm at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Staten Island. Martinez, who responded to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 was diagnosed in 2013 with multiple myeloma from his time at the recovery. He is a 24-year veteran of the FDNY. On Friday, June 12, 2015 at 7:00pm, the NYPD and FDNY Gaelic football teams will play a benefit match for two NYPD police officers who face lengthy recoveries after being shot in January.
