The deadline to register for FEMA assistance has been extended to April 13, 2013 for residents living in 13 counties labeled disaster areas. All five boroughs are disaster areas.
Federal aid may include money for rental assistance, home repairs, and other needs not covered by insurance.

New York City will soon receive its first payment - $1.77 billion - for those residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy.
From March 27, 2013 until Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 11:59pm, New Yorkers can make suggestions on how the money should be spent.

World Wrestling Entertainment, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and professional athletes have launched an online auction called Superstars for Sandy Relief.
The auction begins on Monday, March 25, 2013 and will end on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Proceeds will benefit The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
Among the items up for bidding are a football training camp for 50 young people at MetLife Stadium; skydiving with wrestler Justin Gabriel; the chance to play a game of HORSE with former Knicks player John Starks at the Madison Square Garden Training Center; airline tickets, and more.

Staten Island Borough President James P. Molinaro will host “A Day of Financial Recovery with Dignity” for Staten Island residents devastated by Hurricane Sandy on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at New Dorp High School.
The event is being convened by “Operation HOPE” and is sponsored by the Red Cross, and will be attended by JP Morgan Chase, FEMA, the Small Business Administration, the United Way, and the IRS.
Molinaro will announce the full details of the event at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
