9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Manhattan Youth’s Downtown Community Center was flooded with almost 20 feet of water during Hurricane Sandy, so their interest in establishing resiliency plans for another hurricane is obvious. The non-profit Where to Turn, a Staten Island group begun in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, needs help to assist families in need this December. Where to Turn is accepting new, unwrapped toys to stock the shelves of their annual toy store. In the past, the store has NOT been at the home of Where to Turn. On the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Wednesday, October 29, 2014, Staten Island Long-Term Recovery Organization will host several remembrance events. At 4:00pm, there will be a Resiliency Walk on the Boardwalk at Sand Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard by Dolphins, followed by a community supper at the picnic area at Lincoln and Midland Avenues. From 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Monmouth County Long-Term Recovery Group will host a resource fair at Port Monmouth VFW for those still in need. More than 20 organizations will be on hand to help with case management, mental health issues, finance, legal services, and more.
