Fundraiser to build Scranton memorial for Gerard P. “Jerry” Moran

A fundraiser to build a memorial plaque for Scanton resident Gerard P. Moran will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 6:00pm-10:00pm at the Polish Club in Scranton. Moran was murdered in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. He is one of 5 Pentagon victims whose remains were never found.

Jerry Moran grew up in North Scranton and graduated from from Scranton Technical High School. He was working in the Pentagon as a videographer under contract to  the Navy on the day of the attacks. He had also been a Naval combat photographer  for several years.

Family and childhood friends of Mr. Moran are planning to raise $4,000 to put a black granite memorial plaque honoring their friend in Providence Square.

Tickets to the event will be $10.00, which includes food and beverages.

Donation checks can be made payable to the “Jerry Moran Fund.”

Lt. Steve Reisman Fundraiser

On Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 3:00pm-9:00pm at Williston Post American Legion a fundraiser will be held for Lt. Steve Reisman. Steve, a husband and father of 2, was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer in 2011. He is undergoing treatment but the financial hardships are a terrible burden on his family.

A donation of $50.00 at the door includes food, drink, raffles, and prizes. Monetary donations can be sent through the bag to: Division 6 (Friends of Steve). Make checks payable to Engine 71.

Dick Vitale Gala benefiting the V Foundation

The 2013 Dick Vitale Gala for the benefit of the V Foundation will take place on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 6:30pm at the Ritz Carlton in Sarasota, FL. The evening will honor Jim Calhoun, Bobby Bowden and Bill Self.

The V Foundation assists in cancer research — they just made a $1,000,000 grant to research blood cancers in workers at the World Trade Center recovery effort.

Brian C. Novotny 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing

The 12th annual Brian C. Novotny 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the New York Country Club in New Hempstead, NY.

A fee of $180.00 per golfer ($720.00/foursome) includes 18 holes of golf (scramble format), use of the driving range, closest to the pin contest, longest drive contest, lunch, dinner, open bar, prizes, awards and silent auction. The fee for dinner only is $50.00. All proceeds benefit the Brian C. Novotny Memorial Scholarship Fund, which has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

There will be one shotgun start at 1:00pm. A buffet lunch with open bar (beer/wine/soda) will be held before golf from 11:00am to1:00pm. After the round, there will be a buffet dinner with open bar (beer/wine/soda) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Benefit for FF Mike Newman

On Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, a fundraiser will be held for FF Michael Newman of Engine 16, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and is currently in the recovery process.

The event will be at the Cutting Room in Manhattan. A donation of $20.00 will be collected at the door. There will be live music, prizes, a raffle and a silent auction.
