9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. The annual Amy King 5-K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00am at the Lakewood Community Center in Lakewood, NY. On the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Wednesday, October 29, 2014, Staten Island Long-Term Recovery Organization will host several remembrance events. At 4:00pm, there will be a Resiliency Walk on the Boardwalk at Sand Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard by Dolphins, followed by a community supper at the picnic area at Lincoln and Midland Avenues. This year’s Red Bandanna Run will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2014 on the campus of Boston College. The Red Bandanna Run honors Welles Remy Crowther, who has earned the nickname “the man in the red bandanna”. He was 24 and a broker from Sandler O’Neill & Partners who wore a red bandanna over his mouth as he saved lives during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center. Support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and have a day of fun for the whole family at Baldwin Park on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The day begins with the half-mile kids fun run at 9:00am. The fee to run is $10.00. The 5-K run/walk for adults begins at 9:30am with a $20.00 fee to participate. The Swim for the Future swim meet and scholarship presentation will take place at 5:30pm on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the AquaCenter on the Upper East Side. Doors will open at 5:30pm; the scholarship presentation will be held at 6:00pm; the swim meet runs from 6:20pm to 8:30pm. The meet is open to competent swimmers who will compete in four individual events (50 yards each in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle), as well as one medley relay.
