Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. The annual Josh Piver Memorial Scholarship Summer Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the home of the Simmons family in Stonington. The afternoon’s activities include childrens’ swimming, games, including whiffle ball, soccer and a bean bag throw; a basket raffle, hot dogs, pizza, ice cream and beverages. Fairfax County, Virginia has been named the host city for the 2015 World Police & Fire Games. The Games will bring more than 10,000 competitors to the area. Many of its 65 events will take place at Fairfax County venues such as George Mason University & Reston Town Center. The 14th annual Deputy Chief Ray Downey Forever Running Memorial 5-K Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2015. The 5-K run/walk will begin at 9:30am and the Kids’ Fun Run will begin at 9:00am.
