9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. The annual Keith D. McHeffey Run, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2015 in Rumson NJ has been cancelled. The 2016 Run is being planned. Keith D. McHeffey was 31 and working for Cantor Fitzgerald when he was murdered by terrorists on September 11, 2001. The annual Amy King 5-K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00am at the Lakewood Community Center in Lakewood, NY. Wethersfield, CT has a 40-year-old tradition of lighting luminaria on Christmas Eve. Again this year, the Richard M. Keane Foundation is selling luminaria kits to make it easy to participate in this beautiful tradition. Each kit contains the special bag, a 14-hour candle and instructions. Kits cost $1.50 apiece. On the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Wednesday, October 29, 2014, Staten Island Long-Term Recovery Organization will host several remembrance events. At 4:00pm, there will be a Resiliency Walk on the Boardwalk at Sand Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard by Dolphins, followed by a community supper at the picnic area at Lincoln and Midland Avenues. The Red Bandanna Run honors Welles Remy Crowther, who has earned the nickname “the man in the red bandanna”.
