Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Brooke Jackman Annual Race for Literacy

The 8th annual Brooke Jackman Race for Literacy will be held this year on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Oyster Bay, New York. Registration begins at 8:30am. The 1 /4 Mile Fun Run for Future Olympians, Age 8 and under, starts at 9:45am.  Crafts for kids begin at 9:15am. The adults’ run begins at 10:15am.

Cost for the 5-K Run/Walk if pre-registered by May 13, 2013 – $20.00. Cost to register on race day -$25.00. Registration for students under age 18 - $10.00. To register, please click here.

All entrants will receive a high-quality commemorative T-shirt and a water bottle.

To check in on race day – pick up numbers, shirts and chips at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School, on Saturday, May 18 from 8:30am to 10:00am. There will be absolutely no pick-up after 10:00am.

Tenafly Ice Cream Day honoring Todd Ouida’s Birthday

In honor of  Todd Ouida’s birthday on Saturday, May 18, 2013, Tenafly ice cream man George has agreed to donate 25 cents for every ice cream bought on what would have been Todd’s 37th birthday to the Todd Ouida Children’s Foundation.

In addition, collection cans  will be available at his ice cream truck all day on May 18, 2013. 100% of proceeds donated will go to the Todd Ouida Children’s Foundation.

Eat pizza & raise money for the Tower of Hope

Raise some dough for the Tower of Hope.

On Saturday, May 18, 2013, eat pizza at UNO’s in Yonkers and their Dough Raiser campaign will donate up to 20% of your check to the Tower of Hope. Dine-in or take-out!

The Tower of Hope is a charity that raises funds to train service dogs for the disabled — especially for wounded veterans. It honors Tom Sinton, who was murdered by terrorists at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Brian C. Novotny 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing

The 12th annual Brian C. Novotny 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the New York Country Club in New Hempstead, NY.

A fee of $180.00 per golfer ($720.00/foursome) includes 18 holes of golf (scramble format), use of the driving range, closest to the pin contest, longest drive contest, lunch, dinner, open bar, prizes, awards and silent auction. The fee for dinner only is $50.00. All proceeds benefit the Brian C. Novotny Memorial Scholarship Fund, which has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

There will be one shotgun start at 1:00pm. A buffet lunch with open bar (beer/wine/soda) will be held before golf from 11:00am to1:00pm. After the round, there will be a buffet dinner with open bar (beer/wine/soda) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Second Annual Todd Ouida Children’s Foundation Conference

The second annual Todd Ouida Children’s Foundation Conference will be held at Montclair State University on May 16, 2013 from 8:30am to 3:30pm.

This year’s speakers are: Dr. Erika Bocknek, who will share her thoughts on family resiliency in early childhood; Dr. Claudia Gold, who will discuss keeping your child in mind when parenting or providing care; and Dr. Gerry Costa who will speak about the links of infant and early childhood mental health to global peace.

Captain Jason Dahl Dove Race for Youth

A family day will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Sagewood II Shopping Center in Littleton.

Attractions include: the raptor conservation group HawkQuest who will present a live bald eagle, great horned owl, peregrine falcon, and Harris hawk for display; an all-day outdoor crafts fair; Denver firemen, helicopter pilots, and flight nurses; and more.

At 2:00pm the annual Captain Jason Dahl Dove Race for Youth takes place. More than 100 white homing pigeons are released to “race” back to their home lofts in Arvada. Sponsors of the winning birds win prizes. You can sponsor a dove for a small contribution to the Jason Dahl Scholarship Foundation.

Jason Dahl was the Captain of United Flight 93, which was hijacked by terrorists on September 11, 2001. Jason was a Littleton Ken-Caryl resident and an outstanding member of the community. His story is well known for the brave acts he preformed that fateful day more than 11 years ago. The foundation named for him raises money for scholarships at Denver’s Metro State.

This year a silent auction for the charity will also take place. The top auction item is a 1-hour jet airliner simulator ride and tour at the United Airlines Flight Training Center.
