The Firefighter Thomas J. Foley Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 as a tribute to an American hero who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. The program is intended to provide a lasting legacy to the life of Firefighter Thomas J. Foley by assisting the children of fellow FDNY firefighters in meeting the expenses of post-secondary educational costs.
College scholarships are offered for students enrolling in an accredited two- or four-year college or university within the continental United States. Scholarship recipients must be the dependent child of an active or retired firefighter or fire officer, whose parent or legal guardian has a minimum of one full year of service at the time of application. Applicants must be high school graduates planning to enter college this fall.
For an application, please email Dan Foley at email@example.com. All applications must be postmarked on or before June 15, 2013 and mailed to:

A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) was drawn up for The World Trade Center Campus Security Plan on April 8, 2013. Following that, a public hearing on the DEIS was held on April 23. Catherine McVay Hughes, chair of Community Board 1 testified at that hearing and drew attention to the need for additional information regarding provisions for future storms and potential flooding; she also requested an extension of air quality monitoring; asked where the Downtown PATH greenmarket would be relocated; and also requested further review of the impact of continued construction vehicle access to the World Trade Center Campus during the completion of the Master Plan. Her full statement can be read here.
The public were invited to submit written comments on the DEIS to the Lead Agency by 5:00pm on May 8 (30 days after the Notice of Completion was issued). That deadline has now been extended to 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Comments should be sent to: Assistant Commissioner David Kelly, Conterterrorism Division, NYC Police Department, One Police Plaza, New York, NY 10038. For further information call 646-610-4557 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
