9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Fireboat John J. Harvey docked at the Hudson River Maritime Museum

The fireboat John J. Harvey will be docked at the Hudson River Maritime Museum from Tuesday, May 28, 2013 until Friday, June 7, 2013, and will be on hand on those days for area school tours.  For more information, please click here or here.

John J. Harvey was built in 1931 and named for FDNY pilot John J. Harvey who was killed in the line of duty. She served the FDNY until her retirement in 1994. On September 11, 2001, John J. Harvey was reactivated to pump water because local water mains were broken in the collapse of the World Trade Center. She pumped water for 80 hours, until water mains were restored.

The story of John J. Harvey is the subject of a 2002 children’s book.

Fireboat John J. Harvey September 11th Interactive Museum Day

The fourth annual Fireboat John J. Harvey September 11th Interactive Museum Day will take place on Saturday, June, 1, 2013 from 11:00am-5:00pm at the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

The day’s events will include guided tours of the fireboat John J. Harvey, tours of the Hudson River Maritime Museum, the 9/11 Interactive Museum sponsored by the Rondout  Valley School District, auctions, a raffle to win a ride on the John J. Harvey, and arts and crafts. Bring a t-shirt and have it silk-screened with an image of the fireboat!

Dan Gallagher Memorial BBQ

The tenth annual Dan Gallagher BBQ will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2013, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. A memorial Mass will be held in Wills Chapel Hall before the BBQ. The Mass will begin at 12:00 noon.

To register for the BBQ, please click here. Tickets are $20.00. The first 100 people to buy tickets will receive a signature BBQ t-shirt. Proceeds will go towards the Dan Gallagher Memorial Wing at DeSales.

In addition to great food, Tony Billone and Episode will perform live. Also new this year, a kid’s moon bounce and updates about the Dan Gallagher Wing.

Dan “Reds” Gallagher, 23, was killed at Cantor Fitzgerald during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He was a hugely popular DeSales student, and his legacy lives on at the school he loved.
