9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. There will be a fundraiser for the family of Gregg Abbate at Mulcahy’s of Wantagh on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. A donation of $50.00 per person ($35.00 for those under 35) will include open bar, food, DJ, Chinese auction and raffles. Abbate, 45, of the NYPD, died suddenly on June 27, 2013. There will be a 10-13 fundraiser for Officer Chris Carrasco on Sunday, September 15, 2013, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at the Fairways of Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers. Officer Carrasco, currently of the Yonkers Police Department, is a former Marine and a former NYPD officer. Chris, his wife and baby son need financial help as Chris battles Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Cypress Hills Cemetery will hold a 5-K run through the cemetery grounds to raise funds for the family of NYPD Detective Peter Figoski, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in December 2012. Please join them on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 9:00am to participate. The fee to run is $25.00. The funds collected from registration fees and any donations made will assist Det. The annual Remember Me Run at St. Michael’s Cemetery will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 7, 2013. A project of the Christopher A. Santora Scholarship Fund, the Remember Me Run helps the children of rescue and recovery workers who have died of illnesses contracted from searching for survivors and human remains in the wreckage of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks of 2001. Steve, a husband and father of 2, was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer in 2011. He is undergoing treatment but the financial hardships are a terrible burden on his family. Retired NYPD cop and 9/11 recovery worker Deputy Chief Steven Bonano needs a bone marrow transplant to fight his site-related cancer. There will be a bone-marrow registry drive for him in downtown Brooklyn on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 and Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Bonano served as commander of the elite NYPD Emergency Service Unit, responded to the terrorist attacks and worked during the recovery effort.
