Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. In the spring of 2014, Chris Waltenburg is hiking the Appalachian Trail (at the age of 60) to support the Brent Woodall Foundation for Exceptional Children. The hike will cover more than 2,000 miles and will raise more than $10,000 for autistic children. The shoes that we no longer want or wear are creating sustainable economic means in other countries. Many mementoes and letters shared in the impromptu memorials after the Boston Marathon bombing will be on display as an exhibit called Dear Boston: Messages from the Marathon Memorial. The exhibit will be on display at the Boston Public Library until Sunday, May 11, 2014. Running shoes, stuffed toys, signs, banners and other mementoes from around the world can be viewed.
