9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. In the spring of 2014, Chris Waltenburg is hiking the Appalachian Trail (at the age of 60) to support the Brent Woodall Foundation for Exceptional Children. The hike will cover more than 2,000 miles and will raise more than $10,000 for autistic children. From Wednesday, March 19, 2014 to Saturday, April 5, 2014, five FDNY firefighters from Engine 9/Ladder 6 will ride their bicycles 1,400 miles in 18 days from the former World Trade Center to the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, VA to the National Navy SEAL Museum in Florida. Volunteers from American Legion in Natick, MA will be collecting funds and selling paving stones for the Natick September 11th Memorial at 13 West Central St. from 10:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday through April 5, 2014. On Monday March 31, 2014, from 9:00am onward, twelve FDNY firehouses from Staten Island will hold a one-day March Madness tournament to benefit the Firefighter Jeff Giordano Children’s Playroom at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Burn Center.
