The World Trade Center Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) is currently seeking nominations for 7 of its 17 positions in the following categories two representatives for World Trade Center rescue and recovery workers; two representatives for World Trade Center survivors; one occupational physician with experience treating World Trade Center rescue and recovery workers; one mental health professional and one industrial hygienist. The ground-breaking ceremony for the World Trade Center Memorial Walkway of Southern Illinois in Belleville will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. The memorial will be located at 1125 S. Illinois Street near Firehouse No. 4. The land is city-owned. A large steel column from the World Trade Center will form the memorial’s centerpiece. In the spring of 2014, Chris Waltenburg is hiking the Appalachian Trail (at the age of 60) to support the Brent Woodall Foundation for Exceptional Children. The hike will cover more than 2,000 miles and will raise more than $10,000 for autistic children. From Wednesday, March 19, 2014 to Saturday, April 5, 2014, five FDNY firefighters from Engine 9/Ladder 6 will ride their bicycles 1,400 miles in 18 days from the former World Trade Center to the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, VA to the National Navy SEAL Museum in Florida.
