The first “official” Mike Canty Golf Outing will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course. Registration will begin at 11:45am, with a shotgun start at 1:00pm. A hamburger/hot dog lunch will be held at the turn from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. The cash bar begins at 4:30pm and dinner starts at 5:30pm. The 37th annual Marty and Tom Celic 4-Mile Run will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island. Children’s races will follow the adult race, starting at 11:00am. The event is in memory of the two Celic brothers, FF Marty, of Ladder 18, who died fighting a fire in 1976, and his brother Tom, who was killed at Marsh & McLennan during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The week-long 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive is held each year in memory of the Staten Islanders killed in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks of 2001 and 1993. The annual goal is to raise one pint of blood for each victim – 275 victims from both attacks, but the drive has surpassed that mark annually. Last year’s drive collected 668 pints.
