Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Posse’s Fall Gathering (Michael J. Armstrong Memorial Foundation)

A message from our friends at the Michael J. Armstrong Foundation:

As we are all left with so much sadness in our hearts for the victims and those most severely impacted, the Michael J. Armstrong Memorial Foundation struggled with a decision regarding whether or not to proceed with Posse’s Fall Gathering on this upcoming Saturday at Park Avenue Tavern.  Many members of Park Avenue Tavern were amongst those hardest hit by Sandy’s effects and a primary concern to us was to be respectful and sensitive to those who lost so much.  We reached out for their input in making a decision and below is the response we received.  

“Thank you so much for your concern and kind words.  We will be relying heavily on the support of family, friends, and the extended communities. Park Avenue Tavern is ready to host Posse’s Fall Gathering. We will look forward to getting together with everyone and providing a venue and outlet for doing good.”
Their support of us proceeding with Posse’s Fall Gathering has given us confidence to go ahead with the event as planned. We hope you will join us!  One aspect of the Foundation’s mission is to benefit youth education programs and in an effort to support the communities most impacted by Hurricane Sandy, a portion of Posse’s Fall Gathering’s proceeds will be donated to schools in the Rockaway/Breezy Point/Broad Channel communities. In addition, we will have boxes on hand at the event in case you have items that you would like to donate toward the recovery and rebuilding efforts.  Items that they are most in need of include bleach, mops, buckets, brooms, work gloves, flashlights, batteries, masks, and wellies/work boots.

I hope you are able to join us on Saturday night. I always look forward to Foundation events as an opportunity to come together with friends and family for a night of fun and remembrance.  While it’s with heavier hearts that we do that this year, I think it is a terrific opportunity for us to enjoy one another’s company, as we are all reminded of the many blessings we have and how we can play a part in doing good in light of something so devastating.  After all, isn’t that what Mike’s Foundation is all about?
