Hearing — “Examining H.R. 1786, James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act”

June 11, 2015 @ 10:15 am - 1:00 pm

At 10:15am on Thursday, June 11, 2015, the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled Examining H.R. 1786, James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act.

Passing the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act would ensure that rescue and recovery workers who assisted during and after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center will continue to receive the health monitoring and treatment they need.

In 2011, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 was signed into law, establishing the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program and reopening the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). The programs provide the thousands of rescue and recovery workers (and the survivors of deceased workers) with medical treatment for 9/11-related health conditions and/or economic compensation for losses resulting fromthose illnesses. WTC Health Program and the VCF will expire in 2016.

The legislation also directs the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct research into new conditions that may be related to the attacks and to evaluate current and new methods of diagnosis and treatment.
