Stonington — The annual summer fundraiser to raise money for the Josh Piver Memorial Scholarship will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the home of Selectman Rob Simmons and his wife, Heidi, at 268 North Main St.

Piver, a Stonington High School graduate and soccer player, was 23 when he was killed on Sept. 11, 2001, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center where he worked on the 105th floor for Cantor Fitzgerald.

A scholarship is awarded each year to a Stonington High School senior “who best practices Josh’s values of character and community involvement.”

“Josh died tragically in the World Trade Center and although young, he had established a strong reputation of a charismatic leader, competent student and athlete and compassionate loving friend to his peers and family,” his sister Erika wrote in the announcement of the event, which is billed as a celebration of Piver’s life.

It includes swimming for the children in a heated pool, whiffle ball, bean bag throw, soccer, basket raffle, hot dogs, pizza, ice cream and beverages. There is a suggested contribution of $25 per person at the door and children under 12 are free.
