9/11 still killing as retired cop and firefighter die of cancers

Retired FDNY Firefighter William Gormley, 53 (left) and retired NYPD Detective William Kinane, 60 (right) died of World Trade Center-related illnesses within a day of one another, writes Thomas Tracy in the New York Daily News.

Retired Firefighter William Gormely (l.) and retired NYPD Detective William "Billy" Kinane, who both responded to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, died of cancer last week.

Both men were scheduled to use the same funeral home, but FF Gormley’s family was asked to move to a different one in order to accommodate Detective Kinane’s family.

Both men will have wakes on Monday and funerals on Tuesday. (See our events section – Detective Kinane here and FF Gormley here.)
