9/11 Memorial evacuated as a precaution after non-toxic substance left on plaza

The 9/11 Memorial Plaza was temporarily evacuated at about 5:30pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 after someone left a white substance there, reports Eyewitness News WABC. The substance was found to be salt and may have been used in some sort of ritual.

The National 9/11 Museum beneath the Memorial Plaza was not evacuated.

Shortly after the evacuation, normal operations resumed.
