Judge grants 9/11 death benefits denied in ‘bad faith’

A judge has awarded benefits sought for nine years by the widow of Lt. Cruz Fernandez, wrote Andrew Keshner of the New York Law Journal.

Fernandez, a 23-year veteran of the FDNY, who responded to the 9/11 attacks and spent 25 days working at the site during the recovery, died in 2006 at age 52.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Richard Velasquez has now deemed his death to be site-related.
